Bar Ilan University Responsa Project
Legal decisions are documented in the records of the numerous communal courts which thrived during a 1500 year period of Jewish self-government in the Diaspora. Throughout the world, Jews presented their everyday problems to the rabbis for judicial resolution in the spirit of the Halachah (Jewish law). The decisions of these rabbinical authorities, as recorded in the 60,000 published questions and answers (She'elot U-Teshuvot - responsa) that were sent to Jewish communities scattered throughout the world, constitute the interpretation and application of Talmudic law, and are as important for the contemporary Jew as for our ancient forefathers. The Responsa Project's CD-ROM includes the Hebrew Bible (Tanach) and commentaries, the Babylonian Talmud with Rashi's commentary, the Jerusalem Talmud, Rambam, Midrashim and hundreds of volumes of responsa.
